Families are a symbol of love and unity. Memories cannot be erased. I am a mother of three children and three
grandsons with another one on the way. My love of quilting
started five years ago when I lost my daughter.
Families who have lost a love one experience a life long
change without that person in their daily lives any
longer. They
are left with fond memories along with the hurt that
pierced their hearts. My first quilt was a
photo quilt in loving memories of my daughter.
I gather as many of her photo with other photos of family
members and created love and memories. Shiketa is remembered by friend and
family for her shyness, gracious smile and love for life
and family. Shiketa is truly missed. After making the quilt I decided to start
(Shiketa’s Comfort and Joy Quilts. I used
families love ones clothing, photos, or select their favor
color to create memories.
The
photos below are of my two oldest grandsons’; Daniel and Maxwell making their
first quilt.

Every
quilt I have ever made is in loving memory of my daughter,
Shiketa D. Walker. I lost my daughter six years ago, I did
not know how to cope with my loss, but with the help of
the LORD and his love and mercy, I began to take it one
moment at a time. I did not know a thing about quilting,
but the LORD gave me insight and guided me through every
stitch. The gift GOD has given me, I pass it on to others
who have lost loved ones and to families who just want to
give flowers to their loved ones while they are still
here. Quilting will never compensate for my loss. The pain
is everlasting, but I filled the void by making Shiketa's
Comfort and Joy Quilts for others. When I start on a
quilting project and complete it, the joyful look on that
person's face is great. |
